Presentation

Stroke patient with tracheostomy. Late presentation of uncorrected right neck of femur fracture. Fever.

Patient Data

Age: 45 years
Gender: Male

Right neck of femur fracture.

Large hip/para-hip high attenuation collection with locules of gas within.

Seldinger technique performed.

Introducer needle, followed by stiff wire and finally 10F drain in the right-sided hip collection.

Case Discussion

The procedure was performed in a supine position using the Seldinger technique.

Track dilated prior to a 10F locking drain insertion.

Altered blood was the content of the collection.  

Final diagnosis: Infected hematoma secondary to an uncorrected fracture.
