Chronic pulmonary symptoms , meconium ileus at birth

Patient Data

Gender: Male
X-ray

Initial chest radiograph

Diffuse reticulonodular changes with bronchiectasis and prominent hila. Lung volume is preserved.

CT

Follow-up CT chest (2 years later)

2013 study:

Scout image shows finger in glove appearance .

On CT, note the tree in bud pattern nodules, cylinderical bronchiectasis, and mucous plugs within the large airways.

Case Discussion

Consider cystic fibrosis in any young adult with unexplained bronchiectasis.

For a young adult with diffuse bronchiectasis and interstitial lung disease, consider cystic fibrosis until proven otherwise.
