Presentation

Right upper dental pain and fever.

Patient Data

Age: 45 years
Gender: Male
x-ray

Extensive dental caries of 16 with marked lucency surrounding the roots (particularly the mesial root) in keeping with odontogenic infection. 26 and 47 are absent. Previous dental restoration in all 4 quadrants including 16. The mandible and temporomandibular joints appear normal.

Good example of dental caries spreading into the roots and causing periapical infection.
