Development of aberrant right subclavian artery (illustration)

Case contributed by Vincent Tatco
Diagnosis not applicable

This diagram shows the development of an aberrant right subclavian artery.

Case Discussion

An aberrant right subclavian artery develops from the right seventh intersegmental artery and part of right dorsal aorta caudal to the intersegmental artery. This is associated with the disappearance of the segment of the right dorsal aorta cephalad to the intersegmental artery and of the ipsilateral fourth pharyngeal arch artery.
