Evaluation of skin dimple at lumbosacral area

Age: 1 month
Gender: Female

There is a bony spur projecting through dural sac at the level of L3 which is compatible with diastematomyelia.  Spina bifida occulta is noted from L2 up to L5 without sign of myelomeningocele.

No tethered cord or scoliosis is seen. No evidence of hemivertebrae or butterfly vertebrae is visible.

Diastematomyelia or split cord malformation refers to a type of dysraphism when there is a longitudinal split in the spinal cord.
