Diffuse alveolar hemorrhage

Case contributed by Jesus Sanchez Castro
Diagnosis probable

Presentation

Presents to the emergency department with respiratory difficulty and hemoptysis, without fever.

Patient Data

Age: 20 years
Gender: Male
ct

Pulmonary parenchyma with adequate ventilation, diffuse increase in density, with bilateral alveolar filling pattern, predominantly in lower lobes.

Case Discussion

Diffuse bilateral increase in density, with alveolar filling pattern, predominantly in lower lobes, without areas of pulmonary consolidation.

The pattern of opacification is characteristic of diffuse alveolar hemorrhage in the acute stage, to this is added the clinical head of the patient with dyspnea and hemoptysis, although the presence of alveolar hemorrhage is linked in many occasions to kidney disease and to Goodpasture syndrome. The patient does not have a history related to these conditions and the laboratory tests were negative, so the etiology remains uncertain.
