The gallbladder is of normal size, the wall is thickened to 5 mm and is mildly irregular in appearance with some small polyps.
Case Discussion
The findings correspond to a diffuse cholesterolosis. The gross pathological appearance of this process has been termed "strawberry gallbladder" 1-3. This is due to the deposit of triglycerides and cholesterol esters in the macrophages (foam cells) within the lamina propria.
