Diffuse idiopathic skeletal hyperostosis (DISH)

Case contributed by Dr Nikola Todorovic
Diagnosis certain

Presentation

The patient complains of vertigo, occasional headaches, and neck stiffness.

Patient Data

Age: 65
Gender: Male

Flowing ossifications anterior to the vertebral bodies from C3 to C7 (probably even below that level- so-called flowing ossifications).

There are also linear calcifications along the path of vertebral arteries bilaterally (visible on the frontal view).

Case Discussion

DISH, in this case, can be considered as an incidental finding and patients symptoms are probably caused by degenerative changes of the cervical spine and possible insufficiency of vertebral circulation.
