Ductal carcinoma in situ

Case contributed by Andrew Lawson

Presentation

Routine screening.

Patient Data

Age: 45 years
Gender: Female
mammography

Moderately fibroglandular breast parenchyma.

In the upper outer quadrant of the right breast there is a discrete region of architectural distortion (5cm diameter) with multiple, scattered pleomorphic micro-calcifications visible. This corresponds to the clinical palpable mass. Axillary nodes are noted on the mammogram, but have a benign appearance.
No discrete mass could be demonstrated on ultrasound.

The left breast is unremarkable.
Pathological right axillary adenopathy with microcalcifications.
The skin contours and nipple profiles are smooth.
