Best appreciated on T1 Sagital images, the posterior pituitary gland is seen as a bright spot adjacent to the hypothalamus.

A ct scan was done to rule out hypothalamic lipoma which would show fat atttenutaion
Case Discussion
Ectopic posterior pituitary is the result of faulty embryogenesis where the posterior pituitary gland is not seen at the sella. Instead the gland is seen at the level of hypothalamus or floor of third ventricle.
The condition is a cause for pituitary dwarfism.

The main differential diagnosis is hypothalamic lipoma
