Unwell with delirium. Known type 2 diabetes.

Patient Data

Age: 75 years
Gender: Female

Abdominal Xray

x-ray

Air lucency is seen outlining the urinary bladder.

ultrasound

The bladder is masked by air in its wall.

Case Discussion

Rim of gas lucency outlining the wall of the bladder consistent with emphysematous cystitis. Ultrasound, which was performed to assess the upper renal tract, shows artifact from bladder wall gas (echogenic rim with dirty posterior shadowing).
