A rounded mass can be seen within the right mainstem bronchus. This finding was not detected initially.

There is an endobronchial soft tissue mass at the bifurcation of the right upper lobe bronchus and bronchus intermedius.  There is no evidence of extra bronchial extension. Again seen is hyperinflation of the right upper lobe with volume loss of the right middle and lower lobes.

There are no suspicious pulmonary nodules or enlarged mediastinal lymph nodes.

Carcinoid tumor was the favored diagnosis. Mucoepidermoid and adenoid cystic carcinoma were provided as additional differential considerations.

Case Discussion

The patient underwent right posterolateral thoracotomy for resection of the tumor. The diagnosis of carcinoid tumor was confirmed by histopathologic analysis of the resected specimen.
