Presentation

Nasal blockage on left side.

Patient Data

Age: 20 years
Gender: Male
mri

A large left sided nasal mass involving both ethmoid sinuses and left maxillary sinus.

Destruction of the cribriform plate with intracranial component that displays peripheral cysts.

The tumor is not seen seperately from the grey matter suggesting invasion.

Case Discussion

Esthesioneuroblastoma or olfactory neuroblastoma is a tumor arising from neural crest cells in superior nasal cavity. It has bimodal age distribution in second and sixth decade. Detecting invasion of neuroparenhcyma is important as it decides surgical approach.

This case was biopsy proven. Histopathology reveals multiple flexer wintersteiner rosettes, higher number of rosettes suggest a more well differentiated tumor.
