Presentation

Hearing loss in left ear. Hard swelling in left external auditory canal.

Patient Data

Age: 40 years
Gender: Male

Bony density lesion attached to the anterior wall of the left external auditory canal through a stalk and almost obliterating the ear canal. Soft tissue seen filling the left external ear.

Case Discussion

External auditory canal osteoma is a slow growing benign neoplasm involving the temporal bone comprising of discrete and pedunculated bone lesion arising along the tympano-squamous suture 1.

They need to be differentiated from exostoses of external auditory canal, which are often bilateral, bony elevations involving the tympanic bone 2.
