Fetal intrahepatic calcification

Diagnosis almost certain

Presentation

Primigravida for anomaly scan. No complaints. No significant past history.

Patient Data

Age: 20 years
Gender: Female
ultrasound

An echogenic focus ( 3 mm ) is noted in upper abdomne of fetus. It is anterior to inferior vena cava and posterior to ductus venosus; both of which are patent. It appears to be in left lobe of liver. No associated soft tissue mass lesion is noted. Rest of the liver shows normal echopattern.

No other abnormality is noted in fetal anatomy.

 

Follow up at 32 wks

ultrasound

Solitory hepatic calcification is unchanged.

No other abnormality is noted.

Post natal USG day 3

ultrasound

Solitory hepatic calcification focus ( 4 - 5 mm ) anterior to inferior vena cava.

No associated mass lesion is noted.

Rest of the neonatal abdomen - pelvis ultrasound was normal.

Age 11 mths USG : fever

ultrasound

Residual hepatic calcifcation measures  2 - 3 mm.

No abnormality noted explaining fever.

Case Discussion

After 1st USG - TORCH done.

Rubella – Ig G  -  Postive                Ig M - Negative

CMV      – Ig G  -  Postive                Ig M - Negative.
