Fetal tachycardia

Diagnosis almost certain

Presentation

Primigravida patient. Previous USG scan: 11-13 wks 6 days, 18-20 wks, and 24 wks scan were normal. Triple marker test: low risk . C/o fever - 2 days.

Patient Data

Age: 35 yrs
Gender: Female
ultrasound

Fetal heart rate range of 200-210 beats per minute.

No anatomical abnormality was noted in fetus or maternal abdomen.

Case Discussion

Finding of transient fetal tachycardia due to maternal fever. The mother's temperature 30 minutes after the scan was104 F.

Later serum blood culture was performed : P. Vivex positive.

The mother responded well to anti-malarial therapy.
