Presentation

Foreign body ingestion 1 day ago, mild dyspnea after ingestion and regurgitation during the examination.

A metallic artefact (open safety pin) in the center of the neck represents a foreign body ingestion that has remain lodged in the hypopharynx.

Case Discussion

A swallowed foreign body can remain physically asymptomatic, or patients can feel a foreign-body sensation.

An ENT specialist may refer the patient for imaging to confirm the presence and location of the foreign body, in addition to any additional pathology that may have occurred due to the ingestion (i.e. esophageal perforation, subcutaneous emphysema).
