Freiberg disease - 2nd metatarsal

Patient Data

Age: 45 years
Gender: Male

Left foot

x-ray

Irregular head of the second metatarsal head with concave articular surface consistent with a Freiberg infraction, with secondary degenerative changes at the second metatarsophalangeal joint. 

Os peroneum is noted.

Case Discussion

In Freiberg infraction, plain radiographs may show sclerosis and varying degrees of flattening of the articular surface involved.
