Presentation
Headache and frontal swelling.
Patient Data
Expansion and total opacification of the left frontal sinus with T1 high-intensity fluid content and smooth scalloping of its related bony bounderies, resulting in a focal bony defect of the anterior wall of the frontal sinus through which minimal extension into adjacent soft tissue / subgaleal region is noted.
Case Discussion
Mucocele of paranasal sinuses is an airless, expanded sinus that develops after obstruction of the sinus ostium, or rarely after filling of the sinus by a distended mucous gland, and contained mucoid secretions produced by the mucosal lining. The extreme differences in MR signal intensity reflect variable hydration of the mucoid contents of the obstructed sinus.
