Gastric lipoma

Case contributed by James Harvey
Diagnosis almost certain

Presentation

Presents with reflux. Endoscopy demonstrated a submucosal lesion at the gastro-esophageal junction.

Patient Data

Age: 60-70 years
Gender: Female

CT abdomen and pelvis

ct

A 27mm ovoid, fat-density lesion is present at the gastro-esophageal junction. There is no solid or cystic component and no internal septations/complexity.

A well-circumscribed fluid density lesion within segment II of the liver was shown to be cystic on USS.

Case Discussion

Gastric lipomas are benign tumors of the stomach. They are typically submucosal, as in this case. The absence of internal septation and a solid component essentially excludes a low-grade liposarcoma.

Based on the imaging appearance, biopsy was not performed.
