Smooth, circumferential, masslike thickening of the gastroesophageal junction with intermediate attenuation.
Case Discussion
This was an alarming finding in young patient. Despite his young age, GIST and adenocarcinoma also were of concern. The increased attenuation of the circumferential thickening indicates a soft tissue neoplasm, not submucosal edema such as seen in peptic ulcer disease (example here). Endoscopic biopsy revealed leiomyoma.
