Geniculate ganglion (illustration)

Case contributed by Frank Gaillard
Diagnosis not applicable
Diagram

Geniculate ganglion, branches and course of the facial nerve. Note that the lesser petrosal nerve is primarily a branch of the glossopharyngeal nerve with only a small contribution from the facial and vagus nerve. As such it should not be thought of as a branch of the geniculate ganglion, but rather receiving a communicating branch from it.
