Grid cut off - upside down grid

Case contributed by Andrew Murphy
Diagnosis certain

Presentation

Rule out heart failure

Patient Data

Age: 60 years
Gender: Female
x-ray

Despite a technically sub-optimal study due to grid cut off, the lungs and pleural space are clear. No acute intrathoracic pathology. Specifically, no interstitial pulmonary edema. Stable cardiomegaly.

Case Discussion

Note the change in density across the PA chest x-ray, the patient's left side is uniformly more radio-opaque. Upon inspection of the imaging room, it was found the upright grid was turned upside down, resulting in consistent grid cut off across all studies performed that day.
