Right ovarian cyst that displays complex signal characteristics:

  • T1: Low signal at the center with peripheral hyperintense signal surrounded by hypointense wall
  • T2: Hyperintense signal with very low signal wall
  • STIR: similar to T2 with no fat component

Case Discussion

The cyst displays signal according to the stage of hemorrhage. The following cyst contains hemorrhage in the chronic stage at the center and subacute stage peripherally with hemosiderine deposition at the wall.
