Hemorrhagic dacryocystitis

Presentation

Painful soft tissue bulge on the left side medial canthus with a history of nasolacrimal duct obstruction.

Patient Data

Age: 75 years
Gender: Female
ct

Cystic distention of the left side lacrimal sac containing dense fluid is seen. Note also right eye has no native lens and a relatively large AP length of the right eye with a thin uveo-scleral layer. Cerebral ventricles are also dilated.

Case Discussion

The case illustrates hemorrhagic dacryocystitis which is rare and usually due to long-standing nasolacrimal duct obstruction complicated by infection.
