Patient undergoes a chest x-ray for chest pain.

Age: 67
Gender: Female
x-ray

Large left retrocardiac gas-fluid filled structure, which is non cardiac or pulmonary in origin.

Case Discussion

A hiatus hernia is a common incidental finding on a chest x-ray.  Variable in size they make have a varying degree of gas and fluid content.

EGD and barium swallow/meal studies more accurate assess the nature of a hiatus hernia.
