Presentation

Penetrating trauma to the left chest.

Patient Data

Age: 15 years
Gender: Male
x-ray

Air fluid level and secondary partial lung collapse are seen on the left side suggesting hydropneumothorax.

Hydropneumothorax is present at the left side, accompanied by left lung partial collapse. 

Case Discussion

On an erect chest radiograph, hydropneumothorax is classically shown as an air-fluid level, but this may be more challenging on the supine radiograph.
