Hypoplastic left heart syndrome - antenatal

Presentation

Antenatal scan at 21 weeks.

Patient Data

Age: 25 years
Gender: Female

There was normal fetal situs

The left ventricle is hypoplastic on 4-chamber view

Small left atrium

The right atrium and right ventricle are enlarged because of the alterations in hemodynamics

Prominent pulmonary trunk with antegrade flow and aliasing along with PDA

Hypoplastic aorta with retrograde flow via PDA

The rest of the fetal anatomical survey was normal

Fetal maturity corresponded to LMP.

Case Discussion

Hypoplastic left heart syndrome (HLHS) is a cyanotic congenital cardiac anomaly where affected individuals can have profound cyanosis and cardiac failure.
