Ileocolic intussusception

Case contributed by Dr Amro Omar

Vomiting, abdominal distention, bloody diarrhoea

Patient Data

Age: 5 months
Gender: Female

Anteroposterior radiograph shows dilated bowel loops in the left upper quadrant and soft tissue density in the right abdomen. The clinicial presentation and appearance is highly suspicious for intussusception.

Subsequent ultrasound confirmed the diagnosis. Transverse ultrasound shows the classic target sign of an intussusception.
