Presentation
The patient was complaining of pain in the left hip and thigh, that had an acute onset during a football game.
Patient Data
There is edema of the left iliac muscle where it is attached to the iliac bone. There is an elliptical shape mass in the left iliac bone, with clear margins (periosteum) and a heterogeneous content. The content is hyperintense on T2 fat sat and hypointense in T1.There is a liquid-liquid level, with different signal intensity, due to the bloody content.
Case Discussion
The diagnosis is of a subperiosteal hematoma, due to the strain of the iliac muscle. The patient's thigh pain can be secondary to nerve compression.
