Left hip pain
Patient Data
Discontinuity of the right obturator ring, with smooth corticated margins of the adjacent pubic body and inferior. No abnormal mineralization or soft tissue density to suggest soft tissue mass. Findings most consistent with non-ossification of the right ischiopubic synchondrosis as an anatomic variant.
No left hip fracture.
Case Discussion
Failure of ossification of the ischiopubic synchondrosis may be unilateral or bilateral 1.
With any lesion of the pubic ramus, one should always consider differential diagnosis of fracture or lytic bone lesion (e.g. metastasis). In this case, the entirely corticated appearance and smooth margins of the adjacent bones, particularly at the junction with the pubic body, as classic for an unfused synchondrosis.
