Infant with mixed subdural collection and BESS

Diagnosis almost certain

Presentation

Infant twin with accelerated head growth and an episode of lethargy.

Patient Data

Age: 4 months
Gender: Female

Right sided subdural hygroma and acute to subacute subdural hematoma. Left sided prominence of subarachnoid space. Pachymeningeal enhancement.

2 weeks following hospitalization. Prominence of subarachnoid space bilaterally. Small right subdural hygroma.

Normal T2 study one year later.

Case Discussion

Child protection team investigated this case and discovered no external or bony injuries, and no retinal hemorrhages. The caregiver was cleared of any wrongdoing. The child is normal developmentally at age 4 years.
