Presentation

Routine screening.

Patient Data

Age: 55 years
Gender: Female
mammography

No focal abnormality, mass lesion or architectural distortion. Note the profile of the pectoral muscle.

Two years later

mammography

There is a subtle density in the submammary fat overlying the muscle profile.

ultrasound

The ultrasound images show the typical appearance of an infiltrating ductal carcinoma deep to the breast on the pectoral fascia.

Case Discussion

The submammary fat is a review area in mammography. Train your eye to routinely review the profile of the pectoral muscle and you will not miss these lesions.
