Infiltrating ductal carcinoma in retromammary fat on craniocaudal view

Case contributed by Garth Kruger
Diagnosis certain

Presentation

Routine screening mammogram.

Patient Data

Gender: Female

Review the prepectoral fat on this view. Train your eye to consciously make sure there are no mass lesions in the fat behind the glandular disc. Note the small spiculated density in the "milky way", a small IDC.

Case Discussion

This is one of the reasons comparison with the contralateral view is done as well as comparison with previous. This is an obvious overstated case just for illustration; smaller less obvious lesions can also be found on careful observation of this area. Watch out the lesion may or may not be visible on the MLO view.
