Presentation
Recurrent headaches and lethargy, particularly with exercise or fasting. Plasma blood glucose level of 45 mg/dl, which is improved by giving glucose.
Patient Data
There is a well-defined rounded lesion within the uncinate process of the pancreas. No focal liver lesions are identified.
There is a well-defined lesion returning low signal intensity in T1WI and T2WI, with mild enhancement post contrast.
Case Discussion
Insulinomas represent 70% of islet cell tumors of pancreas and are the most common type of pancreatic neuro-endocrine tumor, with an annual incidence of 1-4 cases per million people. However, localization and diagnosis of insulinomas is a challenge to surgeons and radiologists. Most of them are intrapancreatic, benign and solitary, with an excellent prognosis. There is no predilection for any particular part of the pancreas.
