Presentation

Work up for neck pain.

Patient Data

Age: 55 years
Gender: Male
x-ray

There is triangular ossification in the front aspect of the C4-C5, C5-C6, and C6-C7 intervertebral disc spaces suggestive of intercalary bones.

In addition, the Sesamoid ossicles of the nuchal ligament are observed at the posterior aspect of the neck.

Case Discussion

The intercalary bones calcification within the annulus fibers are seen at the anterior aspect of the disc space, especially in the lower cervical spine. They are thought to be degenerative in etiology.
