Imaged for placement of Tenckhoff catheter for peritoneal dialysis.

Patient Data

Age: 60 years
Gender: Female

Coiled tip of the Tenckhoff catheter is seen within the pelvis.

Incidental finding of a radiopaque serpiginous device in the mid pelvis.

Case Discussion

The Lippes Loop intrauterine contraceptive device was first introduced in 1960 and was discontinued in 1985. It is made of polyethylene plastic. Designed for long-term use, patients today still present with retained devices and may be incidentally seen on imaging.
