Presentation

Recent head trauma.

Patient Data

Age: 15 years
Gender: Male
ct

Bilateral comminuted fracture of the anterior and posterior arches of C1 vertebra with mild displacement and free bone fragments. Mild lateral displacement of lateral atlas masses, seen on coronal view.

Undisplaced transverse fracture of the Dens (odontoid process) with the lateral masses of C2. The fracture line is extending to lateral masses of C2 with cortical interruptions (type III Dens fracture), best seen in coronal images. There is associated elevated periosteum and subperiosteal hyperdense collection (subperiosteal hematoma), best seen on sagittal images.
