Lacrimal gland adenoid cystic carcinoma

Presentation

Remarkable right side proptosis and right eye hypotropia and pain.

Patient Data

Age: 65 years
Gender: Male

​There is a large solid lobulated margin mass lesion axial width up to 30x22mm in the right side lacrimal gland orbital part which has an impression on adjacent bone and also eroded the bones in the superotemporal wall of the orbit and adjacent roof and also partially encased superior and lateral rectus muscles. The mass also partially encased the eye's uveo-scleral layer and caused right side proptosis and hypotropia of the right eye. Some scattered foci of calcification within the mass are also seen.

Case Discussion

The case illustrates pathology proved adenoid cystic carcinoma of the lacrimal gland. The tumor has a poor prognosis and high recurrence rate and rarely has calcified foci. The main treatment is surgical excision and radiotherapy.
