Left main bronchus intubation with complete right lung collapse

Case contributed by Dr Amro Omar

Presentation

Dyspnoea , low oxygen saturation

Patient Data

Age: Newborn
Gender: Male

Total opacification of right lung with the endotracheal tube seen in the left mainstream bronchus, consistent with collapse of the right lung after left mainstem bronchus intubation.

Radiograph obtained after correction of endotracheal tube positioning shows improved aeration of right lung with mild residual right upper lobe atelectasis.

Case Discussion

Always assess catheters/tubes in any radiologic exam you are confronted with.
