Patient Data

Age: 14 years
Gender: Male

Left occipital recent extradural hematoma. It exerts a mass effect in the form of effacement of the overlying sulci and compression of the 4th ventricle.

Follow up of left occipital epidural hematoma. In this study: It appears heterogeneous high signal on T1 and high on T2 & PD denoting late-subacute-extracellular met-hemoglobin. It exerts a mass effect in the form of effacement of the related cortical sulci, compression of the 4th ventricle and effacing the peri-mesecephalic cistern. An associated little amount of nearby left parietal subacute subdural bleed is seen.

Case Discussion

An extradural hematoma (EDH) (also known as an epidural hematoma) is a collection of blood which forms between the inner surface of the skull and outer layer of the dura.

Epidural or extradural hematoma is a type of traumatic brain injury.

An epidural hematoma usually presented early in the acute phase, but here in our case is presented as an aging hematoma in the late subacute phase.
