Left renal infarct

Presentation

Sudden severe left renal angle pain ? renal colic.

Patient Data

Age: 35 years
Gender: Male
ct

Initial CT KUB showed focal renal swelling thus CT angiogram was performed.

Wedge-shaped region of non-enhancement with filling defect in the anterior segmental branch of the left renal artery consistent with infarction. 

Case Discussion

The clots causing renal infarct are usually embolic in etiology but no cardiac source was found. A patent foramen ovale was eventually detected by "bubble" echocardiography, i.e. paradoxical thromboembolism.
