Presentation
Middle-aged patient, presented to the Emergency Room department with ocular trauma from a wooden log.
Patient Data
Non-enhanced axial CT scan shows complete posterior dislocation of the right lens.
Case Discussion
Blunt trauma typically displaces the cornea and anterior sclera posteriorly, deforming the globe. The deformation causes the complete (in this case) or partial rupture of zonular attachments. As a result of complete rupture, the lens usually dislocates posteriorly, and less commonly, anteriorly.
Non-traumatic lens dislocation can occur in systemic connective tissue disorders, e.g. Marfan syndrome, Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, and homocystinuria.
