Right knee joint swelling.

Synovial based soft tissue swelling at the suprapatellar bursa with high signal on T1 and suppression of signals on T2 fat sat sequence. It is associated with moderate knee effusion and marked degenerative changes.

x-ray

Right knee swelling, involving mainly the suprapatellar region with increased opacity.

Marked osteoarthritis changes with multiple osseous loose bodies.

Case Discussion

Classical MRI appearance of lipoma arborescens involving the knee joint with associated knee effusion and degenerative changes. It is seen as a frond-like synovial mass with high T1 signal and suppression on T2 fat sat sequence, involving mainly the suprapatellar bursa.
