- the interosseous ligament can be a single ligamentous band
- the planter may only have a single bundle between C1 and M2
This structure is an important stabilizer of the foot, creating a keystone-like configuration of the base of the 2nd metatarsal between the medial and lateral cuneiforms. Disruption of this ligament, known as a Lisfranc injury results in inherent instability of the midfoot and poor patient outcomes if not detected early.
