Case contributed by Varun Babu
Diagnosis almost certain

Presentation

Hard mass in upper outer quadrant of right breast

Patient Data

Age: 50 years
Gender: Female
ultrasound

An ill defined hypoechoic taller than wide lesion with spiculated margins is seen in the superolateral quadrant of right breast. Couple of specs of micro calcification seen within the lesion. Enlarged right axillary lymph node with loss of fatty hilum.

Case Discussion

Benign lesions in breast are usually wider than tall, respecting different planes of tissue within the breast. Malignant lesions on the contrary defy planes, appear taller than wide and demonstrate poorly defined margins with wide zone of transition.
