Malignant meningioma

Presentation

Headache and firm scalp swelling

Patient Data

Age: 50 years old
Gender: Male
mri

Large left frontal extra axial space occupying lesion compressing the underlying brain resulting in subfalcine herniation and extending through the left frontal and parietal bones to the scalp (local invasion). The mass shows intense enhancement after contrast with typical dural tail sign.

Diagnosis: Malignant meningioma with local invasion WHO grade III (Histopathology proved anaplastic type)

Case Discussion

Atypical and malignant meningomas are associated with local invasion and brain edema. Differential consideration include meningeal metastasis, meningosarcoma and skull osteosarcoma.
