Patient Data

Age: 30 years
Gender: Male
x-ray

Undisplaced transverse oblique fracture through the medial right mandible body, and minimally displaced vertical oblique fracture through the angle of the left mandible which extends through a lower left molar.  Multiple periapical lucencies, likely to be periapical abscesses.  

Case Discussion

Orthopantomography (OPT) examinations can be performed in isolation or in combination with mandible radiographs to assess for mandible fractures.  Mandibular fractures nearly always occur in 2 places, so satisfaction of search is important after identifying one injury.
