mri

Peri-articular subchondral bone marrow edema of the manubriosternal joint with high signal of the fibrocartilaginous disc, capsular bulging and edema. No hyperostosis or joint erosion. This corresponds to one of the skin markers.

Associated and presumably reactive inflammatory change at the second costosternal joint. Remaining costosternal joints are unremarkable.

Sternoclavicular joints are unremarkable.

Case Discussion

Manubriosternal joint arthropathy is uncommon and carries a broad differential that includes inflammatory arthritides (e.g. rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, SAPHO syndrome). The cause is not known in this case as the patient was lost to follow-up.
