Mature cystic teratoma

Case contributed by Dr Amr Farouk

40 years old patient, accidentally discovered cystic mass on ultrasound

Patient Data

Age: 40 years old
  • A left adnexal well encapsulated cystic mass is seen showing peripheral coarse mural calcification, dominant internal fat density (-140 HU) & internal soft tissue mural protuberance. It is measuring about 6X5 cm in its maximal dimensions.

Case Discussion

A cystic mass with fat (areas with very low Hounsefield values), mural calcification (sometimes dentiform), Rokitansky protuberance (solid protuberence projecting from an ovarian cyst) are diagnostic of mature ovarian cystic teratoma.
